Primary foundation in music classes are essential for creating the musician. If a child already understands musical concepts (pulse, pitch, rhythm etc) and can hear what is on the page before playing, they will have a greater understanding of music and their will be only the technical aspect of learning the instrument.

Primary foundation in music (4-6yrs approx.)
Tuesdays Level 3 – 4-4.40pm
Thursdays Level 2 4-4.40pm, Horbury
•Work on games involving pulse and be able to sing call and response songs without losing the pulse.
•Learn the difference between the pulse and rhythm and identify which is which.
•Explore their voice and the differences between singing and speaking voice
•Be able to clap a simple rhythm and be able to identify a song from the teacher clapping the rhythm.
•Gain confidence by participating in solo work.
•Start to read and write simple stick notation, starting with crotchets (ta) and quavers (ti-ti)
•Sing using Solfa and Handsigns starting with so and mi (minor 3rd)
•Chance to play a wide range of instruments such as recorder & piano
40 min class – £5.25 a session payable in half term blocks
Max 6 to a session
Primary foundation in music (7 – 11yrs)
This is an advanced class for school years yrs 3 to 6 designed for children who are already playing an instrument or are thinking of learning. Using the Kodaly approach children will explore musical concepts and build a solid musical foundation enabling children to go on and learn any instrument.
Children learn to:
•Read and write rhythms using stick notation, starting with crotchets (ta) and quavers (ti-ti)
•Play rhythm echo games – clapping a short rhythm and they echo. They will be able to clap a rhythm of a known song and also be able to identify it.
•Call and response songs enable children to take over a song without losing pulse
•Sing using Solfa and Handsigns starting with so and mi and be able to identify these pitches and transfer these to the musical stave.
•Students will also develop inner hearing essential to all musicians by learning to sing together in canon.
•Develop their own musical compositions using solfa
*Chance to play a wide range of instruments including piano, clarinet and saxophone.
Max 6 per session 45 mins.
£5.25 per session payable over a half term block
